A few things that would really help the discussion group feature in FB:

a) Subscribe option to topic (to get emails when new things are posted to a thread)

b) Attach files (to attach screen shots, photos, etc)

Both of your suggestions have already been heard, and are likely to make it into FogBugz sometime soon.

And since you are at it: make it generate a global RSS, that shows new posts and new comments. Right now it's impossible to follow a discussion group through a RSS reader.
